anyway, the first roadblock gets anyway, the first roadblock gets thrown up daily. this one, i feel like throwing up daily when i hear it. it can be used seemlessly in a way that always sounds so brilliant, so intellectual, so intelligent. the word is sustainability. as in, this economic turn is not sustainable, so the stock market rally is not sustainable. how many times have you heard that, right? my take, you don't get this kind of endless rallies in the caterpillars and etones and gms if the turn isn't sustainable. those moves would have been repealed a long time ago. you also wouldn't see the consistent underperformance of the recession stocks. that's right, the recession proofs like merck and coca-cola and general mills which can't get out of their way to save their lives pl you wouldn't be seeing that if the economy was getting stronger, not weaker? if there's one thing i've learned in my 30 years of trading is a rotation out of food and drugs into machines and tech means a long-term recovery. given that this is not a consumer debt-fuelled economy, given that the consumer is healthy and getting healthier worldwide, i would say not only is it sustainable, it might be multi-year sustainable. our next bugaboo is housing. every day, we hear about mounting foreclosures. banks taking back homes at increasing levels. but i say if this were a real worry, you wouldn't be seeing such powerful rallies in jpmorgan or bank of america or wells fargo. they own too many homes through foreclosur foreclosure. it simply wouldn't be possible if the stories were as bad as people think. in fact, the very opposite is true. these bank moves are telling us there will be a housing shortage in 2011. now you really think i lost my mind. how could that ever be possible? well, how about the fact that we aren't bidding enough homes. home starts are back to where we were when we only had half the people we have in this country now. and because job growth will come back, you don't stop paying your
